Women in Entertainment Making Strides!

As Gorgeous on the Go expands, we definitely want to support causes that support women and the positive portrayal of women in the media. With the controversy surrounding female images in hip-hop nowadays, the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN) was formed to support, promote and defend the balanced, positive portrayal of women in entertainment and in society. How this correlates to our beauty blog is that I had the opportunity to volunteer for the newly-formed organization

Thanks to Divine Bradley, for the heads up about the organization. The launch party took place at the exclusive home furnishings “boutique” Bo Concept in SoHo. It was a complete “pink” carpet event, with a few A-listers in the music industry and big-name executives. Much to my dismay, their spokesperson, Kimora Lee Simmons, was nowhere to be found! Here are the pics that I missed out on, while I was helping to set up for the party:9-19-07_1.jpg

Fortunately, I didn’t have a problem approaching these beautiful people:

The evening went by quite fast – within two hours people were already starting to head out. By the end, I got to exchange some words with the founder, Valeisha, who is also the Executive Director of the Hip-Hop Summit Network. The goals of the organization is to enroll 1 million women onto the website and launching a women’s empowerment tour for 2008. Check out the website – it’s free to register! Can’t wait for the next party!
